Laux Hall is one of our two all freshmen first year experience co-ed halls with about 226 students. As a first year experience hall, special academic and programmatic services are offered to meet the unique needs of freshmen. It is a four-story building on the east side of campus and has a very social atmosphere. First and third floors are male floors. Second and fourth are female floors. Community style bathrooms can be found on each floor. Laux is on the corner of East Avenue and La Crosse Street, on the east side of campus.
Student rooms are double-occupancy. Most student rooms are the same size with room dimensions 15'6" long x 11'6" wide x 8' high. This can vary on location in the building. Included in each room are two desks, dressers, beds, mini-fridge, bookshelves, cable cord, recycling bag, trash bin, and recycling bin.
In addition to student rooms, Laux Hall has general use spaces for residents to use. There is a TV lounge area, game room, group study, and computer lab. Also, on each floor there is a study. This study is typically used for overflow housing during the first semester and sometimes the whole year.
In addition to these special amenities, Laux Hall is also host to an Academic Resource Team comprised of returning students who assist Laux residents as they adjust to the academic demands of college life. Recent UWL data show this type of assistance improves student's GPA performance. There is an additional minimal charge assessed to students living in this unique environment to fund these services.
Volleyball courts are located directly in the back of the hall and an all-campus Sandblast beach volleyball tournament is annually hosted here. Currently, Laux also hosts an all campus Casino Night. First year students will definitely notice a special emphasis to meet their unique needs through intentional academic and programmatic efforts.
